Jiajun Song is a Chicago-based multimedia/fiber artist and jewelry designer. Influenced by Buddhism, Taoism and Shamanism, he travels between the external world and the internal world, the macro world and micro world by sewing, embroidering, re-weaving, and re-threading with the wasted objects from daily life. His practice delves into a natural state of existence, approaching the world with a retrospective outlook. He aims to cultivate an awareness of life’s quality and the value of objects in today’s excessively abundant existence. Ultimately, he seeks to convey a process that evokes feelings of slowness, serenity, tenacity, and eternal flow within a confined space through long-term, laborious practices. These mediums serve as a means to explore how the hand, as a tool, can collaborate with the material world, guiding the mind towards the microscopic realm of internal materials. He magnifies the vitality of objects through structure and texture, making those neglected objects and lives the entrance to decode the world model.
Jiajun Song holds an MFA in Fiber & Materials Studies from School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a BA in Fiber Arts from China Academy of Arts.
